Chris Waddell Experience

St. Regis Deer Valley is excited to offer an exclusive partnership with Hall of Fame Paralympic skier, Chris Waddell.A Park City resident, Waddell has built a career on inspiring and the ski legend will spread his message of positivity to motivate groups as well as offer the rare opportunity for participants to ski besides him on the mountain.

Waddell was a promising ski racer at Middlebury College in the late 1980’s when his ski popped off in the middle of the turn, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He returned to college two months later and began to ski in a mono-ski just 362 days after the accident. He was eventually named a member of the U.S. Disabled Ski Team, and went on to become the most decorated male mono-skier in history with 12 Winter Paralympic medals. Also, a track athlete, Waddell holds the rare distinction of winning world championships in both Summer and Winter Games.

In addition to his competitive achievements, Waddell’s notoriety derives from being the first nearly unassisted paraplegic to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in 2009, and producing an acclaimed film documenting the climb. The Dalai Lama recognized him as an “Unsung Hero of Compassion,” Skiing magazine called him one of “The 25 Greatest Skiers in North America,” he’s been named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People,” and has appeared on Oprah, Dateline and 20/20. In 2008, Waddell founded the One Revolution foundation, an organization intended to “turn the perception of disability upside down.”
